The Way Kathie Lee Gifford Shut Down Body Shamers on ‘Today’ Was Perfection
On Kathie Lee and Hoda’s hour, the Today star let her haters have it.
Kathie Lee Gifford would like her body shamers to know that she’s doing just fine, thank you very much.
The Today show star revealed on her broadcast Thursday morning with co-host Hoda Kotb that she has received a lot hate recently from people alleging that she’s “too skinny” or snidely asking if she’s sick. And so, to address the haters/those who claim they’re concerned, she took some time on the show to let everyone know that she’s “fit, so healthy, so happy, and so hopeful!”

“I’ve had three doctors’ appointments in the last two weeks — [I’m] healthier than I have ever been in my entire life,” she relayed to her co-star. “More fit, more excited . I’m doing work 10 times what I did when I was in my twenties. And if that’s upsetting to people, they have to look at themselves.”
Kathie Lee went on to say that, ultimately, the “real people in her life” are thrilled for her and that everyone else’s opinion means nothing.
Hoda, being the amazing friend and co-worker that she is, of course backed her pal KLG while also mentioning that the TV host’s weight loss comes from the fact that she’s working on her new film Love Me to Death. This prompted Kathie Lee to explain that her character is a newly widowed woman and a runner.
“I started getting in shape for that movie last fall because I knew we were going to shoot it in the spring,” Kathie Lee clarified. “That’s what actresses do.”
She also pointed out the double standard that actors like Robert De Niro are told they “love their craft” when they change their weight for a role, but, instead, she got attacked.
According to Today, the former Live! With Regis and Kathie Lee host has been working in Scotland alongside Craig Ferguson to create the film, which she calls her “passion project.” Additionally, Kathie Lee also sings the title song with Brett James for it.
In short, Kathie Lee is busy living her best life and is doing just great. And that’s all that matters in the end.
