Is diet coke health-friendly?
Diet coke seems like a better and healthier choice when it comes to soft drinks. They seem to be a hit among health freaks for whom staying fit and healthy is a priority. They are mostly marketed as the zero-calorie drinks that can replace the regular soft drinks/sodas but are known to be addictive and can be hazardous to health. Since, the diet coke is sugar-free and calorie-free, people who are watching their health switch to this in order to remain healthy. But, is it really friendly for health?
Diet coke is a mixture of artificial sugars, additives and carbonated water. Although it has no calories, the nutritional value isn’t much either. The caffeine content contributes to dehydration and can be very addictive. The additives make you urinate more which leads to extra dehydration and also the elimination of essential minerals which causes headaches, dizziness and fatigue. Apart from that, the artificial sweetener that is added in this beverage, aspartame, is known to increase the production of fat cells as well as cause inflammation. Prolonged use of this sweetener can lead to serious problems and long term health problems.
