Fasting, or abstaining from eating any food, is an age-old tradition that has been revitalized in the detoxification and wellness industry. Shelves are packed with detoxifying cans of this or detoxifying jars of that. If you do not have an underlying medical issue and are serious about trying a juice fast, you can start with a diet V8 juice fast after talking to your doctor. However, keep this as a short-term fast as longer fasts may be dangerous and do not provide the needed fats and proteins to sustain muscle health.
Pick a day to try your Diet V8 juice fast. Do not choose a day that you know it will be impossible to avoid solid foods, such as a holiday or on a party. Have a bottle or two of your favorite Diet V8 Splash product on hand, which come in a variety of flavors. Juice fasts should not exceed one day unless you have discussed this with your doctor.
Drink 8 oz. of the diet juice as breakfast upon waking, then another 8 oz. every 4 to 6 hours after this. You cannot eat solid foods or extraneous beverages, such as coffee, on a juice fast. You may only drink the diet juice and water for the duration of your fast. According to the Diet V8 Splash label, each 8 oz. serving provides 10 calories and 3 g of carbohydrates.
Drink water throughout the day or when hunger strikes. On average, you need eight 8 oz. glasses of fluid daily, although the fluid in your diet juice counts towards that goal. Drink more to replace lost fluids through sweat or environmental concerns such as heat.
Watch for signs indicative of the fast — your body will feel it is being starved and you may suffer headaches. Although they are normal, if you start to feel dizzy, have irregular heart beats or cannot focus stop the fast and reach for some solid food. Not everyone is able to fast and for some people the side effects of an extremely low-calorie day can outweigh the benefits.
